GOLDEN RADISH AWARDS
As Georgia Organics sunsets the Golden Radish Awards, we look back at the best of the last six years and look forward to continuing to serve school nutrition and staff.
We are thrilled that the Georgia Department of Education School Nutrition Program (GaDOE SNP) will continue to steward the Georgia’s Golden Radish Award into its next phase beginning in 2022.
HIGHLIGHTS
From 2014 through 2019, Georgia Organics, with the Georgia Departments of Agriculture, Early Care and Learning, Education, and Public Health, and UGA Extension, celebrated Georgia Farm to School best practices with the Golden Radish Award.
Ten criteria points served as a framework to guide districts in the creation of comprehensive farm to school programs. Click here to view those criteria points. Requirements were adjusted according to school district size, and awards ranged from Honorary for achievement of one criteria and Platinum for excellence in all ten. LEA applications were led by the school nutrition directors and staff, who were recognized by the leaders of Georgia's state agencies and Georgia Organics each October.
We celebrate all the hard-working Georgia school nutrition professionals who achieved Golden Radish Awards over the six-year span of the program.
2014-2019 GOLDEN RADISH AWARDEES
The Golden Radish Award was given to Local Educational Agencies (LEAs) in Georgia who are doing extraordinary work in Farm to School.
The Award is presented by the Georgia Department of Education, Georgia Department of Agriculture, Georgia Department of Public Health, the UGA Cooperative Extension, Bright from the Start: Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning, and Georgia Organics.
Winning LEAs are recognized by the leaders of these six groups every October.
In 2021, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we reluctantly decided to cancel the Golden Radish Awards and instead give out the funds we would have spent on the ceremony in the form of Farm to School mini grants, which has now grown into an ongoing initiative of Georgia Organics: Farm to School Innovation Mini Grants.
The Georgia Department of Education School Nutrition Program (GaDOE SNP) is excited to continue this important recognition.
